There are many NDIS participants in Sydney with Down syndrome and the Sutherland Shire is all the better for it. The Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology programs provided at Aevum can assist in increasing strength, co-ordination and balance as well as help improve gross motor skills for greater independence and keeping up with peers. We can also help you through the process of dealing with the NDIS and equip you with an excellent report when due at your next plan meeting.

OUR KIDS WITH DOWN SYNDROME

For our kids, the goals are often to try and assist establishing age appropriate developmental milestones. This can range from pulling up from sitting to a standing position or kicking a soccer ball. Whatever the unique goals are Aevum Health can help establish them. A common goal is increased walking capacity. Walking endurance is often significantly reduced due to low muscle tone. The reduced muscle tone makes walking less efficient and therefore cost more energy than it should a strength program can help endorse greater muscle efficiency and therefore walking endurance. This is a common therapy goal as it means the young child can then keep up with their siblings and family when out. However, it is one of many things that the team can assist with in helping our kids fulfil their little dreams.

OUR ADULTS WITH DOWN SYNDROME

For our adult NDIS participants the goals are often to assist maintaining good health, strength and fitness. Over time we aim to assist moving towards greater independence and self management as well as understanding of the importance of good health as we get older. Where this isn’t possible we will always help guide and support our participants for the long run. As we get older our strength and balance deteriorates, this can lead to a greater prevalence of falls and lost independence. The Aevum therapy program conducted by our Physio and Exercise Physiology team will ensure lower limb strength is maintained and balance is also as good as we can get it.

There are many unique goals and skills that each NDIS participant in the Sutherland Shire area will have. Our job is to find what those things are and help you achieve them, while also having a lot of fun. Aevum Physiotherapy services all participants in the Sutherland shire and south Sydney area. We are centrally located in the Sutherland Shire at 550 Princes highway Kirrawee. We boarder Gymea, Miranda, Sutherland and Caringbah is just down the road.
