3D Bike Fitting: What It Is and Who Benefits

A 3D bike fit uses motion-capture technology to measure how your body actually moves on the bike, then adjusts the bike to fit you — improving comfort, power and reducing the risk of overuse injury. It benefits riders dealing with pain or persistent niggles, people setting up a new bike, and performance-focused cyclists chasing efficiency. Rather than relying on general rules of thumb, a 3D fit works from how your body pedals, not an average.

What is a 3D bike fit — and how is it different from a static fit?

A traditional or "static" bike fit takes measurements while you sit still, then applies standard reference ranges to set saddle height, reach and cleat position. It's a reasonable starting point, but it can't capture what happens once you're actually turning the pedals under load.

A 3D bike fit is dynamic. At Aevum's Kirrawee lab, motion-capture technology tracks reflective markers on your body while you ride, measuring joint angles at the hip, knee and ankle throughout the entire pedal stroke. This shows how your position changes as you fatigue, shift in the saddle or reach for the bars — detail a static snapshot simply misses.
