Retraining movement after stroke, in the Shire.
Recovery after a stroke is not a fixed window. The nervous system keeps adapting, and the right kind of practice — specific, repeated and hard enough to matter — continues to produce change months and years afterwards. Our NeuroHub in Kirrawee is built around that principle.
What stroke rehabilitation looks like here
Every program starts with a full assessment of how you move now: walking speed and symmetry, balance under load, upper-limb function, and the everyday tasks that have become difficult. We measure rather than estimate, because measurement is what lets us show progress later.
From there the work is repetitive and specific. Retraining a hemiplegic gait, restoring reach and grasp, rebuilding the confidence to walk outdoors — each needs hundreds of quality repetitions, not a handful. The equipment in our NeuroHub exists to make those repetitions safe, measurable and possible earlier than they otherwise would be.
The equipment that makes earlier practice possible
The Motek C-Mill VR is a treadmill with integrated body-weight support and augmented-reality projections. The harness carries part of your weight, so walking practice can begin before independent standing balance is fully restored — and the projected targets train stepping accuracy, obstacle avoidance and dual-tasking in a way flat-ground walking cannot.
The AlterG anti-gravity treadmill reduces effective body weight by up to 80%, which lets us build walking volume without the fatigue and fall risk that normally limit it.
The Tyromotion Myro interactive surface turns upper-limb practice into game-based tasks with objective scoring — useful because arm recovery needs high repetition counts that are hard to sustain without feedback.
Working alongside your wider team
Stroke recovery rarely sits with one profession. Our physiotherapists, exercise physiologists and occupational therapists work as one team in the same building, so goals and progress are shared rather than repeated across separate appointments.
We also liaise with your GP, rehabilitation specialist, support coordinator or plan manager, and provide the progress reporting NDIS plan reviews require.
Where sessions happen
Most stroke rehabilitation runs at our Kirrawee clinic, where the NeuroHub equipment is located. Ground-floor access, wide doorways and extensive parking make arrival straightforward for people using a wheelchair or walking aid.
We also run sessions at our Helensburgh clinic, and mobile visits across the Sutherland Shire where travelling to a clinic is the barrier.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions.
How soon after a stroke can rehabilitation start?
As soon as your treating team clears you for outpatient therapy. Early work matters, but the more important point is that meaningful gains continue well beyond the first few months — we regularly see progress in people who were told their recovery had plateaued.
Is stroke rehabilitation covered by the NDIS?
Yes. Aevum Health & Physiotherapy is a registered NDIS provider. Physiotherapy, exercise physiology and occupational therapy after stroke are typically funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living. We support agency-managed, plan-managed and self-managed participants.
Can you help if my stroke was years ago?
Yes. Neuroplasticity does not switch off. Where movement has plateaued, a change in the type, intensity or specificity of practice often produces further change — which is exactly what the C-Mill and body-weight support allow us to do.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to see a physiotherapist privately. If you are using a Medicare care plan, DVA or an NDIS plan, different paperwork applies and our team can talk you through it.
What if I can't walk independently yet?
That is precisely what the harness and body-weight support are for. Supported gait training lets walking practice begin earlier and more safely than unaided work allows.
